Research Day 2011

“Resources for Research in Agriculture” was the theme of the display mounted by the Archives & Records Management Programme for Research Day, January 2011.

This was in keeping with the overall theme of the exhibition which focused on agriculture and entrepreneurship. The Archives display featured docments relating to the teaching of agricultural science from as far back as 1947; plans for the merger of the Imperial College of Tropical Agriclture witrh the then UCWI and even a copy of the Royal Charter dated 1929 establishing the Imperial College.

Visitors to the display were interested to learn from a letter in the collection that the UCWI had considered seriously a proposal from the Government in 1952 to make 250 acres of land at Twickenham Park available for teaching of agriculture. For various reasons, the offer was not taken up.
