The year 2012 which is now coming to an end will long be remembered by the staff of the University Archives. This is because after years of promises, planning, disappointments and anticipation, the Archives moved into its specially designed facility in the new UWI Regional Headquarters Building.
This move meant not only that the archival materials could be housed under optimum conditions, but there was now space for additional materials to be transferred to archival custody. The Archives acquired valuable materials from departments and units of the Vice Chancellery as they sorted and organized their records in preparation for the move to the new building. The volume and value of the collection have therefore increased and the profile of the Archives has increased as a result.
The challenge of the Archives is to organize the collection according to accepted international standards and to make its materials available. Work on this is far advanced and early in the New Year the Archives plans to launch its on-line catalogue to the materials it has organized to date. Therefore, stay tuned for new developments and… HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!
