About the Archives

The University Archives at Mona is a vital expression of The Archives & Records Management Programme of The University of the West Indies, which is an integrated inter-campus one responsible for the organization and management of the records generated and received by the University in the conduct of its affairs. The Programme is headed by the University Archivist, who is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, directing, administering and operating the archives and records management programme for the University at large.

The purpose of the University Archives is to identify, acquire, organize, preserve and make available for reference and research, all university records of enduring administrative and historical value and in whatever format.  In doing this the University Archives serves as the corporate memory of The University of The West Indies.

To provide professional, efficient and consistent handling of University records by implementing policies and procedures based on recognized principles and practices for the appraisal, organization, maintenance, retention and disposition of University records, including their systematic transfer to Archives for preservation, arrangement, description and availability for research, reference and related purposes.
