The University Archives and Records Management Advisory Committee congratulate Professor Emeritus Woodville Marshall, on receiving a knighthood in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to education.
A founding member and the second Chairman of the Committee, Sir Woodville has the distinction of having been present at eighteen of the twenty occasions at which the Committee has met since its establishment in 1993. He is therefore the Committee’s longest serving member and as such he has been able to bring a sense of continuity to its work.
Sir Woodville played a critical role in the discussions with the Government of Barbados regarding the establishment of the West Indies Federal Archives at Cave Hill and in persuading the Government to make a significant financial contribution to the establishment of the Archives Centre. He continues to serve as the chair of the Federal Archives Advisory Board and in this capacity he continues to make an important contribution to the work of the institution.
We salute this outstanding Barbadian historian and former UWI Pro Vice Chancellor for his contribution to archival development in the region and in particular to The University of the West Indies.
